PURPOSE
Barack Obama said "Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek."

Our aim is to encourage debate to identify ways in which we can effect positive change for the Sandown area for our residents, local businesses and visitors.
There are several core attitudes we need to adopt at the outset.

  1. We must believe that change is possible.
  2. Second, we must engage in the process positively and democratically.
  3. We must believe that every improvement, no matter how small, is meaningful and worth doing.

This includes anything from looking after our environment (climate control, energy, disposing of litter) to encouraging the development and occupation of large eye sore sites currently quietly decomposing through neglect (such as The Ocean Hotel owned by Phoenix Commercial Property Development Limited).

We must be prepared to work together and understand that we are never all going to agree on every item. Democracy allows for this and, once decisions have been made via the agreed process, it is imperative that everyone supports it wholeheartedly.

Otherwise nothing will happen!

Change can happen

There are a number of prominant landlords and developers who currently own large sites and/or properties within Sandown.

We would like to engage with these companies and identify their plans.

Then, whilst liaising with local residents, planners and politicians, we will try to ensure that all parties' interests are catered for. This includes identifying both how a proposal might help the local community and also how it will make a profit for the developer.

Otherwise, it will not happen!
